Did you know having histamine intolerance or high histamine may be THE root cause of your:

  • Acid reflux
  • Diarrhea
  • Headaches/ migraines
  • Dizziness/ vertigo
  • Bloating & stomachaches
  • Feeling sensitive to just about everything you eat (avocado, tomatoes, eggs, dairy)
  • Skin issues (eczema, rosacea, hives)

& the more I talk about histamine the more I realize how many misconceptions and how much confusion there is in the histamine space.

Phrases and questions I hear often:

  • “Does having histamine symptoms mean I have MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome)?”
  • “Does having histamine symptoms mean I have to follow a low histamine diet?”
  • “Antihistamines or histamine supplements never work for me ….”

& the list could go on and on. But the thing is, histamine has VALUE in the body – so I don’t want to give it a bad name. But, having too much or high histamine can, in fact, make you feel like you’re experiencing quite the symptom storm.

It’s important to know this one thing…

When addressing a histamine case it’s rarely a one-stop shop – aka do this ONE thing to reduce histamine for good. Rather, a histamine case is much more about unpacking the “why”… why there is too much histamine in the body with an inability to break it down.

Sneaky culprits of high histamine are:

  • Mineral deficiencies (iodine, copper)
  • Bacterial overgrowth/ SIBO
  • Multiple rounds of antibiotics
  • History of antacids or PPIs
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Mold history
  • Skimping on protein (a low protein diet is a big culprit of liver issues. Liver issues = histamine issues)
  • Poor digestion or not breaking down food well (digestion naturally releases histamine – but if food is going undigested, histamine production will uptick)

With the right testing and assessment…

…you can better understand what is driving up histamine for YOU, making your plan feel specific, realistic and exciting.

Knowing that these are the main drivers of histamine symptoms, it breaks my heart to see you settle for a bandaid solution like the low histamine diet or an antihistamine that likely doesn’t improve your symptoms.

Consistent symptom wins are not only the goal of the work I do with clients – but also the driver of the comfy, cozy feeling that what you are doing is, in fact, working for you.

My 3 favorite labs to run FIRST

To uncover the possible root causes of high histamine symptoms, I’d run:

  • Stool testing (GIMAP)
  • Gut specific blood labs
  • Mineral testing via a hair sample (HTMA)
  • Phase 02 testing: Mycotoxin (mold) testing
